The Chart display is made up of a series of
up to four configurable panels, each with their own Y-axis and a common X-axis.
The fifth panel is reserved for displaying Volume and Open Interest. In
addition the Chart display includes an optional legend and data value display.
A chart can contain up to five panels, with
each panel being displayed only when selected by the user.
·
Top: This panel is the primary panel and displays charts
and all symbol fields (including bar and candlestick) except volume and open
interest. This panel can also display studies, in line and user defined
formulas, trendlines, and statistic lines for the Mean and +/- 1 and 2 Standard
Deviations.
·
Middle Panels
2 through 4: These panels can
be used to display studies. Multiple studies can be assigned to these panes
·
Bottom: This panel is used to display volume and open
interest.
The legend is displayed in the upper left
hand corner and can be toggled on and off from either the Chart toolbar or the Edit Dialog.
The legend contains one row for each symbol
with associated field/chart types in a comma separated list. Each item is
color coded to match their chart display. The legend also indicates which
Y-axis, either left or right, the symbol is using.
The Value Display Popup Window allows the
user to view the specific values at any point along the X-axis of the chart.
The user can toggle the display of the Value Display window by either
clicking on the chart or by checking Show Value Display check box on the Display Tab of the Edit Dialog. The Edit
Dialog also gives the user two formatting options: display all fields or just
the fields being charted. The data values will update based on the mouse
over of any point along the X-axis. Users can also define the background and
foreground color as well as the translucency of the Value Display on the Color
tab.
Users have the ability to pan the data lines
in charts. This is useful when after scaling, the lines go out of the viewing
area. To enable panning the user simply needs to click and drag up/down or
left/right within the chart viewing area. The mouse cursor will change to a
four way arrow to indicate that you are in panning mode. If there are multiple
symbols in the chart (scaled to the left and right axis), panning will move the
lines that are scaled to the left. Panning is disabled when the cross hair tool
is on and when any of the drawing tool bar buttons are selected.
A small right click menu is available in
charts. Future releases of MarketView will contain more functionality to select
from.
